On August 31, Priscilla of Boston informed the world they would be closing their doors December 31 this year. Our classic, chic, ballgown loving hearts are saddened by the news. From a business standpoint, it makes sense. The wedding gown industry is not what it once was, and fewer people are spending $5,000 and more on their dream dress due to the economy. The designers who are thriving, and will continue, are the ones who can change with the markets and offer today's bride her dream dress for today's budget.
But, how can you not feel sad with an iconic part of the bridal industry is saying farewell after 65 years! Especially after Priscilla of Boston clientele has included Grace Kelly (she designed bridesmaids dresses for the royal wedding), the Nixon daughters, and most recently, Miranda Lambert.
The classic elegance and glamor of POB will be hard to replicate, and our guess is that POB will continue to set a standard and be remembered for some of the most fabulous ballgowns ever. We'll miss the "Queen of the Aisle."
