Here at Bridal Extraordinaire we do love a good veil! Whoever thought up the idea of a piece of tulle billowing out behind a blushing bride was just genius. The veil is a symbol of timeless love and turns that girl in a pretty white dress into a womanly bride. Starting out on the search for a veil can be a bit of a challenge when presented with all the variety and options out there. Here is a quick checklist of the things to consider when choosing a veil.
Long or short length? A cathedral (or body veil as we call it) stretches out 18 inches past the train and gives a beautiful silhouette of softness. Chapel length extends to the mid calf and gives a similar effect to the cathedral without the added length. Fingertip and elbow length veils fall around the fingertips or elbow, depending on the height of the bride. The shortest veil is a birdcage, typically made of Russian tulle, and covers the face.
Edging or no edging? Styles vary from a raw unfinished edge that disappears into the gown, blinged out edges of sparkle beading, romance of chantilly or alencon lace edge, or a satin trimmed edge (typically called a rattail edge or rolled edge).
Embellished tulle or non embellished tulle? Options can include scattered crystals, dispersed lace, a shimmer tulle with a slight sheen to it, or an embroidered beadwork pattern on the edges or throughout.
Double layer/ blusher or not? A blusher is a second layer of tulle that is worn over the face when walking down the aisle. Brides can forgo having it over their face and just wear it for added volume as well (or go for the triple layer if they are really brave!).
Side note: We have just as many brides that choose not to wear a veil as those that do so don't feel like you have to wear one! Just try it on and see how you feel and look.
